Dental Crowns in Scarborough, ON

What makes a smile beautiful? Good tooth color, shape and alignment are a few of the most identifiable qualities of a lovely smile. If you’re looking for a way to improve the appearance of your smile, cosmetic crowns are a quick, effective, and versatile option.

Cosmetic crowns can be thought of as a "cap", placed on top of a tooth to cover discolored, stained or yellow teeth for superior aesthetics. Crowns are used to improve other cosmetic issues such as cracks, chips, and broken teeth. Dentists also use crowns to “reshape” misaligned, uneven or irregularly shaped (teeth with bulges), as well as gaps between teeth. If your teeth could use improvement in any of these categories, cosmetic crowns may be the solution in giving you a beautiful, confident smile.

Dental Crowns in Scarborough, Toronto, ON

Crowns are custom-made in a laboratory to fit your unique smile, and are usually fabricated from zirconia, porcelain or porcelain-fused-to-metal, depending on the tooth and its function. Porcelain crowns have a translucent quality, giving the crown an incredibly natural appearance. All 3 materials are very strong, stain-resistant and extremely durable. While it's possible to damage them if you aren’t careful, cosmetic crowns can last up to 10-15 years.

Cosmetic crowns are very versatile and can mask a wide array of cosmetic concerns. They can be used to improve any of the following characteristics of your teeth:

Scarborough Dental Crowns - before and after

Color — Teeth can become stained by food and drink, smoking, medication and aging. Cosmetic crowns are available in numerous shades, from the most natural to the brightest Hollywood white.

Size & Shape — Your teeth can wear down with time, or may not be your preferred size or shape. Cosmetic crowns can reshape your teeth to enhance your features.

Alignment & Spacing — Crowns can be used to close small gaps between teeth or make slight corrections in alignment while improving tooth color and shape.

Your Cosmetic Crown Procedure

A dental crown typically takes two appointments to complete.

Scarborough Dental Crowns - Step by Step.

At your first visit, we’ll work with you to select the colour and shade of your new crown. We’ll then prepare and shape your tooth to make the crown.

After the tooth is prepared, we'll take impressions of your teeth. The impressions are used to make models of your teeth, which are sent to the dental lab. The models will serve as guides to the highly skilled lab technicians, who will ensure that your new crown is designed to enhance your smile and function well within your bite.

Before you leave the office, you'll be fitted with a temporary crown to protect your tooth until your permanent crown is ready, which usually takes approximately 2 weeks.

At your second visit, we’ll remove the temporary crown. Your new crown will be  fitted properly and then bonded to your natural tooth. We’ll make any adjustments necessary to ensure your bite is balanced and feels comfortable. Welcome to your new smile!

Caring For Your Crowns

Crowns require the same conscientious care as your natural teeth. Be sure to brush and floss between all of your teeth every day to reduce the buildup of  plaque or collection of debris around the restoration. When you have crowns, it is even more important to maintain your regular cleanings at your dental office.

Certain behaviors can significantly shorten the life of a crown. Long-term teeth grinding can damage the crown, which can be prevented by wearing a nightguard during sleep. Biting on hard foods such as nuts, bones, ice or hard candy can compromise the crown's adhesion, or even chip the crown. With proper care, a good quality crown can last up to 10 -15 years or longer.

Dental Crowns can restore your teeth and give you a beautiful smile.
